Charoti Toll Plaza Rates
The following toll charges are applicable from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027.
| Vehicle category | Single journey | Return journey | Monthly pass |
| Car, jeep or van | ₹95 | ₹140 | ₹3,095 |
| Light commercial vehicle or minibus | ₹150 | ₹225 | ₹5,000 |
| Bus or two-axle truck | ₹315 | ₹470 | ₹10,475 |
| Commercial vehicle with up to three axles | ₹345 | ₹515 | ₹11,425 |
| Four-to-six-axle vehicle | ₹495 | ₹740 | ₹16,425 |
| Heavy construction or earth-moving equipment | ₹495 | ₹740 | ₹16,425 |
| Vehicle with seven or more axles | ₹600 | ₹900 | ₹19,995 |
A car, jeep or van pays ₹95 for one crossing. An eligible return journey costs ₹140 when the outward and return crossings are completed within the permitted period.
The standard monthly pass for a car, jeep or van costs ₹3,095. It is different from the discounted local-resident pass available to eligible people living close to the toll plaza.
Single and Return-Journey Charges Explained
The ₹95 car toll applies to one crossing through Charoti Toll Plaza.
The ₹140 return rate covers an eligible outward and return journey through the same plaza. It does not mean that ₹140 is charged separately in each direction.
For example, a car travelling from Palghar towards Dahanu and returning through Charoti Toll Plaza within the permitted 24-hour period may pay ₹140 in total instead of two separate ₹95 single-journey charges.
The same active FASTag should be used during both crossings. The first transaction is recorded by the toll system, and the discounted return amount is normally adjusted during the second crossing.
A vehicle returning after the permitted time may be charged another ₹95 single-journey toll. Drivers should keep both FASTag transaction messages until the journey has been completed.
Local Resident Monthly Pass
A person living within 20 kilometres of Charoti Toll Plaza may qualify for a concessional monthly pass for a privately owned, non-commercial car, jeep or van.
The published local monthly-pass charge for the 2026–27 financial year is: ₹350 per month
Applicants may be required to provide:
- Vehicle registration certificate
- Aadhaar card or another identity document
- Current residential-address proof
- Active FASTag linked to the vehicle
- Registered mobile number
- Recent photograph
- Completed local-pass application
The toll administration must verify that the applicant lives within the permitted 20-kilometre distance.
The concession is linked to a particular resident, vehicle and FASTag. Merely owning a vehicle registered in Palghar district does not automatically activate the local pass.
Local Commercial Vehicle Rates
The current public rate table does not show a separate complete set of discounted rates for commercial vehicles registered in Palghar district.
Commercial vehicle owners should not assume that a local registration number will automatically result in a lower FASTag deduction.
Eligibility for any concession may depend on:
- Vehicle category
- Registration district
- Commercial permit
- Regular operating area
- Toll-project rules
- Documents accepted by the toll administration
Vehicle owners should contact the toll control room and obtain confirmation before applying for a commercial concession.

Charoti and Khaniwade Toll Plazas Are Different
Charoti Toll Plaza and Khaniwade Toll Plaza are separate toll collection points on NH 48.
Charoti is located near Kasa in Dahanu Taluka. Khaniwade Toll Plaza is situated farther south, closer to Virar and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
A vehicle travelling between Gujarat and Mumbai may cross both plazas, depending on the exact route and destination.
The ₹95 car toll at Charoti applies only to the Charoti toll section. It is not the complete toll charge for the entire Mumbai–Surat journey.
Charoti should also not be confused with Bhagwada Toll Plaza, which is located farther north in Gujarat on the same highway corridor.
FASTag and Payment Information
FASTag is the standard payment method at Charoti Toll Plaza. Before travelling, drivers should ensure that the tag:
- Is active and has sufficient balance
- Is correctly attached to the windscreen
- Is linked to the correct registration number
- Shows the correct vehicle category
- Has completed the required KYC
- Is not damaged, suspended or blacklisted
Maintain enough distance from the vehicle ahead while entering the toll lane. Driving too close may prevent the scanner from identifying each FASTag separately.
Check the transaction message after crossing. An incorrect deduction can be reported through the FASTag-issuing bank or National Highway helpline 1033.
Keep the transaction message until the journey is complete, especially when using the discounted return rate.
FASTag Annual Pass
The NHAI FASTag Annual Pass costs ₹3,075 for the 2026–27 financial year. It is intended for eligible privately registered, non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans.
The pass remains valid for one year from activation or 200 toll-plaza crossings, whichever is completed first.
Each one-way passage through Charoti Toll Plaza normally counts as one crossing. Passing through the plaza and returning through it generally counts as two crossings.
Before purchasing or relying on the pass, drivers should confirm that:
- Charoti Fee Plaza appears in the current eligible-plaza list
- The vehicle is privately registered and non-commercial
- The FASTag is linked to the correct vehicle number
- The registered category is car, jeep or van
- The FASTag is active and KYC-compliant
Eligibility can be checked through RajmargYatra. The annual pass is activated on the existing FASTag and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.

Traffic and Safety Tips
NH 48 carries heavy traffic between Mumbai, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Congestion may increase during:
- Friday and Saturday evenings
- Sunday return traffic
- Public holidays and long weekends
- Festival travel periods
- Heavy truck movement
- Road repairs or diversions
- Monsoon rainfall
Choose the correct toll lane early and avoid sudden lane changes near the booths. Maintain additional distance from buses, trucks and multi-axle vehicles.
Heavy rain can affect visibility and braking distance during the monsoon. Water accumulation may occur on parts of the highway, particularly during intense rainfall.
The Charoti and Dahanu region may also experience fog or reduced visibility during early mornings. Drivers should reduce speed and follow all temporary traffic signs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Why can a Mumbai–Surat journey show several toll deductions?
A: Charoti covers only one section of NH 48. A longer Mumbai–Surat journey may also cross Khaniwade, Bhagwada or other toll plazas, producing separate FASTag transactions.
Q2: Can a driver use the return rate after staying overnight?
A: The discounted ₹140 return rate normally requires the second crossing to be completed within the permitted 24-hour period. A later crossing may be charged as a new ₹95 single journey.
Q3: What should a driver do if the vehicle breaks down near Charoti?
A: Move the vehicle away from the active traffic lane where possible, switch on the hazard lights and call 1033. Give the direction of travel and nearest kilometre marker so the patrol or crane can locate the vehicle.
Q4: How can an incorrect Charoti FASTag deduction be challenged?
A: Keep the FASTag message and note the plaza name, transaction time and vehicle number. Report the transaction to the issuing bank or call 1033. The bank may raise a chargeback after reviewing the plaza record.
