Nanguneri Toll Plaza Rates

The following toll charges are applicable from May 25, 2026, to March 31, 2027.

Vehicle category Single journey Return journey Monthly pass
Car, jeep or van ₹120 ₹175 ₹3,925
Light commercial vehicle or minibus ₹190 ₹285 ₹6,345
Bus or two-axle truck ₹400 ₹600 ₹13,290

Heavy construction or earth-moving equipment ₹625 ₹940 ₹20,845
Vehicle with seven or more axles ₹760 ₹1,140 ₹25,375

A car, jeep or van pays ₹120 for a single crossing. An eligible return journey costs ₹175 when the outward and return crossings are completed within the permitted 24-hour period.

The monthly-pass charges in the table are standard frequent-user rates for the respective vehicle categories. They are different from the concessional ₹360 local monthly pass available to qualifying residents.

Single and Return-Journey Charges Explained

The ₹120 car rate applies to one crossing through Nanguneri Toll Plaza.

The ₹175 return rate covers an eligible outward and return journey. It does not mean that ₹175 is charged separately in each direction.

For example, a car travelling through the plaza towards Kanyakumari and returning through the same plaza within the permitted 24-hour period may be charged a total return rate of ₹175 instead of two separate ₹120 single-journey charges.

The same active FASTag should be used for both crossings. The system normally records the first transaction and applies the remaining return-journey amount during the second crossing.

A vehicle returning after the permitted period may be charged another single-journey rate. Drivers should keep both FASTag transaction messages until the return journey is complete.

Local Commercial Vehicle Rates

Reduced toll rates may be available to qualifying commercial vehicles registered in Tirunelveli district.

Vehicle category Local commercial rate
Car, jeep or van ₹60
Light commercial vehicle or minibus ₹95
Bus or two-axle truck ₹200
Commercial vehicle with up to three axles ₹215
Four-to-six-axle vehicle ₹315
Heavy construction or earth-moving equipment ₹315
Vehicle with seven or more axles ₹380

A Tirunelveli district registration number may not be sufficient by itself. The vehicle owner may be asked to provide:

  • Vehicle registration certificate
  • Commercial permit
  • Address proof
  • Business or operational documents
  • Active FASTag linked to the vehicle
  • Proof that the vehicle meets the local-use conditions

The reduced commercial rate should not be assumed to activate automatically. Vehicle owners should confirm eligibility with the toll administration.

Local Resident Monthly Pass

A person living within 20 kilometres of Nanguneri Toll Plaza may qualify for a concessional monthly pass for a privately owned, non-commercial vehicle.

The local monthly-pass charge for the 2026–27 financial year is: ₹360 per month

Applicants may be required to provide:

  • Vehicle registration certificate
  • Aadhaar card or another identity document
  • Current residential-address proof
  • Active FASTag linked to the vehicle
  • Registered mobile number
  • Recent photograph
  • Completed application form

The pass is normally linked to a particular resident, vehicle and FASTag. Owning a vehicle registered in Tirunelveli district does not automatically qualify the owner for the concession.

The applicant’s residential distance from the toll plaza must be verified by the toll office. Commercial vehicles are governed by separate concession rules.

Vehicles travelling the complete route between Madurai and Kanyakumari may cross both plazas, along with other applicable toll points.

The ₹120 car toll at Nanguneri covers the Nanguneri toll section. It is not the total toll charge for the complete Madurai–Kanyakumari journey.

FASTag and Payment Information

FASTag is the standard toll-payment method at Nanguneri Toll Plaza. Before travelling, drivers should ensure that the tag:

  • Is active and has sufficient balance
  • Is fixed correctly to the windscreen
  • Is linked to the correct registration number
  • Shows the correct vehicle category
  • Has completed the required KYC process
  • Is not damaged, suspended or blacklisted

Maintain sufficient distance from the vehicle ahead while entering the toll lane. Driving too close may interfere with the scanner and cause a delayed or incorrect transaction.

Drivers should check the FASTag message after crossing. Incorrect deductions can be reported to the issuing bank or through the National Highway helpline.

A vehicle entering the toll lane without a valid FASTag may be charged according to the applicable penalty rules.

FASTag Annual Pass

Eligible privately registered, non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans may use the NHAI FASTag Annual Pass at approved National Highway and National Expressway fee plazas.

The annual pass costs ₹3,075 for the 2026–27 financial year. It is valid for one year or 200 toll-plaza crossings, whichever is completed first.

At an open toll plaza such as Nanguneri, each passage in one direction counts as one crossing. Travelling through the plaza and later returning normally counts as two crossings.

Before purchasing the pass, drivers should confirm that:

  • Nanguneri Fee Plaza appears in the eligible-plaza list
  • The vehicle is privately registered and non-commercial
  • The registered vehicle category is car, jeep or van
  • The FASTag is linked to the correct registration number
  • The tag is active and compliant with the required verification rules

The annual pass is activated on the vehicle’s existing FASTag. It cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
