Khalapur Toll Plaza, Khopoli, Raigad: Rates, Address, Location, Direction

Khalapur Toll Plaza is one of the main toll collection points on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway in Maharashtra. It is located near Khalapur and Khopoli in Raigad district and serves vehicles travelling between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Lonavala and Pune.

The toll plaza is commonly known as Khalapur Toll Naka or Khopoli Toll Plaza. It is positioned on the Mumbai side of the expressway, before the mountainous section towards Lonavala and Pune.

Khalapur and Talegaon are the two main toll plazas associated with the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. However, the toll is charged according to the journey and entry or exit point. Drivers may therefore see the full amount collected at one point or divided into separate FASTag deductions.

Khalapur Toll Plaza Rates

The following toll rates apply to a full one-way journey on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. There is no separate discounted 24-hour return rate. A return journey is normally charged as two individual one-way journeys.

Vehicle category Single journey Return journey Monthly pass
Car, jeep or SUV ₹320 ₹640 No standard public rate
Minibus with 12–20 passengers ₹495 ₹990 Contact toll operator
Two-axle truck ₹685 ₹1,370 Contact toll operator
Bus ₹940 ₹1,880 Contact toll operator
Truck with more than two axles ₹1,630 ₹3,260 Contact toll operator
Mobile crane and specified heavy vehicle ₹2,165 ₹4,330 Contact toll operator

A car, jeep or SUV pays ₹320 for one complete journey between the Mumbai and Pune ends of the expressway. Travelling to the destination and later returning costs ₹640 because there is no ordinary same-day return discount.

These toll rates remained unchanged during the 2026 financial year and are scheduled to continue until April 2030.

Important Explanation of the ₹320 Car Toll

The ₹320 amount is the total one-way toll for using the complete Mumbai–Pune Expressway. It should not always be understood as a separate charge collected only for passing through Khalapur Toll Plaza.

Depending on the travel direction and toll-processing arrangement, the FASTag amount may be divided between the main toll points. For example, a driver may see separate deductions that together equal the complete expressway toll.

Vehicles entering or leaving through Khalapur, Khopoli, Kusgaon, Lonavala, Khandala, Somatane or another connector may be charged a reduced part-toll instead of the complete ₹320.

Partial journeys can be assessed using different percentage slabs based on the entry point, exit point and portion of the expressway used. Therefore, a vehicle travelling only between Khalapur and Lonavala may not pay the same amount as a vehicle travelling from Mumbai to Pune.

Monthly Pass and Local Concessions

Khalapur is an MSRDC state-expressway toll facility. It does not follow the standard NHAI local-pass system under which residents living within 20 kilometres pay a fixed nationally prescribed monthly amount.

Regular-user, local-resident or multi-trip facilities may be available under the expressway operator’s rules, but there is no single publicly listed monthly-pass price suitable for every route and vehicle.

The applicable pass may depend on:

  • Vehicle category
  • Starting and exit point
  • Number of journeys
  • Residential or business location
  • Vehicle registration details
  • Validity period of the pass

Applicants should contact the toll administration and confirm the latest documentary requirements before applying.

The NHAI FASTag Annual Pass should not be assumed to work at Khalapur. That pass is intended for eligible National Highway and National Expressway plazas, while the Mumbai–Pune Expressway is operated under the Maharashtra state road authority.

Missing Link and Toll Charges

The Mumbai–Pune Expressway Missing Link opened in May 2026. It provides a faster connection between the Khopoli and Kusgaon areas and allows eligible traffic to bypass much of the older, congested ghat route.

No additional toll is charged merely for using the Missing Link. The existing Mumbai–Pune Expressway toll continues to apply.

Drivers must not stop inside the tunnels, on the bridge or along the high-speed connecting section. The route is monitored by cameras, and stopping for photographs can lead to enforcement action.

FASTag and Payment Details

FASTag is the main toll-payment method at Khalapur. Drivers should ensure that the tag:

  • Is active and has sufficient balance
  • Is fixed correctly to the windscreen
  • Is linked to the correct registration number
  • Shows the correct vehicle category
  • Is not damaged or blacklisted

Keep enough distance from the vehicle ahead so the scanner can read each FASTag separately. Save the transaction message until the deduction has been checked.

Battery-operated passenger electric vehicles registered in Maharashtra may qualify for toll exemption under the state’s electric-vehicle policy. Hybrid vehicles should not be assumed to qualify for this benefit.

Traffic and Safety Tips

Khalapur Toll Plaza frequently experiences heavy traffic on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings, Sunday evenings and long holiday weekends.

Drivers should choose the appropriate lane early and avoid sudden lane changes. Maintain additional distance from buses and trucks, particularly near the ghat section.

During monsoon weather, reduce speed because heavy rainfall, fog and temporary restrictions can affect visibility. Follow all electronic signs, police instructions and lane-control signals.
